A French bistro in Berlin

A chilly noon after all the great museum visits I was fallen hungry and wanted to have some wine with a bite to eat. It was almost at the end of lunch hour, fashionably late I arrived to La Bonne Franquetta brasserie, kind enough they seated me and presented the lunch menu. I choose the terrine du porc -pork terrine- and bavette a l’echalote et frites – flank steak with fries- from the menu and a glass of sauvignon blanc, Domaine de la Chaise 2009, to start with.

The terrine plated beautifully with Dijon mustard and pickles and flavored with sage & rosemary, delightful and palatable. Then my flank steak arrived with hand cut pomme frites! I chewed the meat, sucked the jus, medium rare does the trick, with a glass of 2009 Chateau du Grand Caumont Corbieres Cuvee Tradition. The potatoes were hand cut, perfectly cooked, crunchy on the outside and soft inside, fabulous! This simple dish is always on the lunch menu as Jana told me, it is one of the most preferred meat dishes. May be it is because Germans do not serve meat like this but boiled and/or well done…

Chat more about food, they get their French produce from France and vegetable and fruit daily… Open for lunch and dinner, I have to admit, I loved the dinner menu better then lunch, next time!

A little french escapade, and a little digestive, soon again I was on the streets looking for more galleries…
